2013 Crusade for Collecting Tour

I drove around the country in a 1977 VW bus to give away art.

The Crusade for Collecting Tour was a revivalist movement meant to encourage public engagement with art and empower a new generation of collectors.

Bringing the art to the people and people to art.

The Crusade for Collecting tour began in April 2013 and stopped in ten cities over the course of three months. Traveling the country in a 1977 VW bus (affectionately named Lady Blue), we staged spontaneous pop-up events to give away original, signed photographs and bring grassroots art appreciation to the streets, moving outside the traditional boundaries of the art world and engaging those not inclined to seek out an art experience.

Each Crusade stop featured a Local Photographer Showcase highlighting talented artists working in their community. These artists were on-site explaining their process and imagery and giving away their work to those who connected with it. This essential aspect of the project introduced locals to homegrown talent and opened new opportunities for artists to interact with their public and develop potential collectors.
